Currently, I'm teaching English on the JET Programme in Nagasaki Japan!  This is a great program where you can do a cultural exchange and put your teaching skills to use!  On this program, I not only experience Japanese cultural events and traditions but also am learning the Japanese language, how to teach English as a foreign language and learning about my own Canadian culture from a foreign perspective!

The application for this program opens in October!  So if you're interested or have any questions about it, feel free to check out the website by clicking the logo above or you can ask me on my blog!

Over the past 10 years, I've worked for the City of Toronto as a lifeguard and swimming instructor.  I keep my Lifesaving Society qualifications current and enjoy making sure the residents of Toronto can enjoy their time at the pool safely.

Working with the City has given me responsibility as a leader and respect for the residents of Toronto as a civil servant.  I hope to continue my role to the community by becoming an educator in more than swimming some day.

For almost a year, I worked as a lifeguard and replacement instructor for the YMCA in Kingston Ontario. This was an eye-opening experience as I got the opportunity to see how other organizations run their educational services.  The YMCA was such a supportive group and employer and I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with them as I studied to be a teacher.

Professional Development

Starting in Jun 2017, I began the TEFL course through the online course website ITTT. I did this to help improve my understanding of teaching English as a foreign langue and to help with the delivery of my lesson material. I have since completed the course as of December 7th, 2017.

I'd like to thank the CLAIR scholarship for accepting my application and giving the opportunity to apply for this course. I highly recommend this course to those seeking to teach abroad as an English teacher or assistant. It is very flexible with your time schedule and I found the delivery and materials provided to be of high quality and very informative. I hope to upgrade in the near future with the same providers with a TEFOL certificate.

If you are interested in taking this course you can click the icon above to be redirected to the course home page. Please make sure the course is accredited for you and where you hope to teach. Not all courses are accredited or accepted when applying for a position that requires a TEFL certification

The annual Nagasaki JET SDC (Skills development conference) takes place every October. It's a two-day conference where JTE's and JET's get together to learn about various activities and approaches to teaching English together in the Japanese language classroom.

This year it takes place on October 16th and 17th. In 2016 it was the same week. I look forward to learning about more awesome techniques from my fellow seasoned JET's

Please Stay tuned... This page is in the works.
