Welcome
December 2017
“If you get lost… I’ll send Finn to get you.” I shout down the hall as Andrei storms off.
“I am not a butler.” Finn replies, flicking his tail.
“I should be good, really. Thanks.” his voice fades as he continues down the passage, torches magically lighting up as he goes.
I look at Finn. “You WILL find him won’t you?”
“I am NOT a butler, but if I happen to come across him on my own way to the dining hall, I’ll bring him along.”
I smile. “Thanks Finn.”
“Please, don’t mention it.”
“Holly shit!! Are you kidding! You gotta be joking! This can’t be real! Oh my god I’m gunna love it here!” I hear Andrei’s distant shout of excitement from down the hall.
“Guess he’s found the renovated sections.”
“No, that was from the library Kerry. He took the wrong path.”
“Ahh, I see.”

I’ve read over the file a hundred times, at least! I’ve been given free reign over how I manage the new kid, Emrys, and his training. I’ve been given leeway with the resources needed as well, and that meant I could call in the only available mage with first hand experience in any kind of magical teenage defiance, Andrei Hanganu.
Andrei was an interesting mage, known for his wild side and frequent disappearing acts to the past. He was a valuable asset to the Order. I’d somehow cowed the higher ups into letting me have him. I was lucky. I would like to thank the charm I placed on the phone for my endearing efforts in his recruitment.
I mull over the earlier introduction to the branch. The entrance, hidden on the outside of the Stonehenge branch was ingenious. It was also fun tricking first time guests. The appearance of the girl Raven was unexpected, though. I’d have to look into her case file. She should have one as an affiliate to the Order. The tension the two brought to my otherwise lonely branch was somewhat unnerving. I could feel it in the air like I could see the Etheria, like an electrical minefield.
I sit in an armchair in the main lobby, warming myself by an Etheria-powered fire. Finn sat in my lap, curled up and purring.
“What do you think happened between those two?” I ask him, watching the fire.
He stops purring. I know he’s thinking about the new people. “They are rather hot tempered. Perhaps they are a perfect match.” He resumes purring.
“Really? I would think quite the opposite. Andrei mentioned a kiss. Knowing him, I doubt he initiated it. His head’s always in the books.” I muse.
“That is not false.”
“Perhaps I should talk to them? I feel uneasy with the argument left as it is.”
“Don’t interfere.”
“Why not? They’re just kids!” I complain. Andrei is 20 year according to his file. Raven’s age is a mystery.
“They are hardly children. They are mature young adults who can fend for themselves. The Order would not have recruited them otherwise.”
I roll my eyes.
“If you are still uneasy, perhaps I can speak with the Raven. She is rather intriguing.”
“You’d do that?”
“Out of pure interest, yes. Yes I would.”
